Vol. 538 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Question:

100 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the number of appointments made by him to the Social Welfare Appeals Office; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18199/01]

There are 18 social welfare appeals officers serving in the appeals office. This number represents an increase of eight officers since 1997. The number of appeals officers is kept under review, taking account of the work arising in the office. In recent years the number of appeals has increased and, accordingly, the staff complement of the office has been reviewed and increased.
