Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - Foreshore Strip Transfer.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

93 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he is in a position to transfer a foreshore strip for a person (details supplied) in County Cork. [18531/01]

My understanding of this matter is that in 1970 the person to whom the Deputy refers gave his solicitor funds to expedite the purchase from the Bantry Estate of an area of foreshore at Castletownbere. However, despite considerable effort and expense on his part in the intervening years, it has not been possible to show that the sale was ever completed.

In the absence of clear evidence of title to the foreshore concerned, it is not possible to progress the matter further. However, I have asked my officials to contact the solicitors to the Bantry Estate and to request that the estate review its files to ascertain, if possible, whether records exist of the transaction or its completion.
