Written Answers. - Extensification Premium.

Michael Ring

Question:

165 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive an extensification payment for 2000; and the reason for the delay in issuing same. [18904/01]

The person named was selected for a second inspection under the 2000 extensification premium scheme. The inspection took place on 22 May 2001 and it was found that the case is in order for payment. It is expected that payment will issue shortly.

Question:

166 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when the computer programme processing the census figures for extensification 2000 will be upgraded to include those farmers who were selected for audit; the number of farmers nationwide who have had their payments delayed due to these technical problems; and the number of farmers in each county who are affected in this regard. [18905/01]

The problem in regard to some farmers who were selected for extensification premium inspection is not a technical one requiring the upgrading of a computer programme. The problem is that discrepancies were found between the numbers of animals declared by some farmers for one or more of five census dates selected for 2000 extensification premium and those found at inspection. The cases involved are being checked in regard to other census dates and following this a decision will be made on whether or not the farmers involved should be considered for extensification premium.

A total of 263 farmers nationwide have not been paid because of discrepancies between declared animals and those found at inspection. A county breakdown of the 263 cases is as follows:
