180 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development if BSE was detected in the course of the foot and mouth disease prevention programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19004/01]

No cases of BSE were detected specifically in the context of the foot and mouth prevention programme.

181 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the total number of animals slaughtered in the course of the foot and mouth disease prevention measures; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19005/01]

As a preventive measure against the spread of foot and mouth disease in this country a total of 58,910 animals were slaughtered.
