Question:

190 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the extent to which payments are outstanding arising from depopulation in the course of disease eradication; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19014/01]

Compensation payments under the disease eradication schemes are processed on an ongoing basis by the district veterinary offices on receipt of all necessary clarifications and documentation required from the herdowner, meat factory, Revenue Commissioners etc. Current compensation expenditure in the year to date is £11.215 million, including £1.053 million in payments to herd owners made under the new on-farm market valuation scheme.

191 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the degree to which compensation or other payments have been made to producers who participated in the beef destruction scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19015/01]

Up to 22 June, £122 million in payments had been made to producers in respect of animals purchased under the purchase for destruction scheme. A further £19 million approximately in outstanding claims is being processed at present.
