Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - Travel Tax.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

213 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the fact that some airlines are refusing to refund travel taxes paid by passengers even where the passenger does not travel; his views on whether this practice is appropriate; if he plans to raise this practice with the airlines; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19028/01]

Ireland imposes no national travel tax. I abolished the £5 travel tax in my budget of December 1999. The tax has not been payable since 1 January 2000. I am not responsible for any charges made by other countries or for any other charges levied by airlines, airport operators or municipal or other authorities.
