Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - Shared Ownership Scheme.

Jan O'Sullivan

Question:

292 Ms O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the responsibilities in a shared ownership scheme situation for housing maintenance as between the local authority and the purchaser under shared ownership; if the purchaser if responsible for all repairs or is the local authority is responsible for half; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18500/01]

The shared ownership scheme is designed to provide home ownership, in a number of steps, for those who cannot afford full ownership in the traditional way. While, initially, ownership of the house is shared between the shared owner and the local authority, full responsibility for repairs and maintenance rests with the shared owner from the date of purchase of the first share of the dwelling.
