Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - Local Authority Housing.

Question:

318 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the contact his Department has had with Dublin Corporation regarding the purchase of local authority flats by tenants. [18827/01]

The current tenant purchase scheme does not provide for the sale of local authority flats to tenants. This matter was examined in the mid-1990s, when it was concluded that no practical arrangements could be made for the sale of flats that would be satisfactory to tenant purchasers. However, my Department is again re-examining the issue with Dublin Corporation to see if the sale of flats could satisfactorily be included in future tenant purchase schemes. These discussions are at a preliminary stage.
