Vol. 539 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

394 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science the steps which are being taken to provide a suitable education for a person (details supplied) suffering from autism; if he will provide funding to allow the person continue with the applied behaviour analysis system in Cork; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18549/01]

The case of the person referred to was the subject of proceedings in the High Court last week. These proceedings were settled by agreement on 21 June 2001 with the matter being resolved to the satisfaction of both parties. In keeping with the agreement reached, my Department will fund a home based programme for the child in question in preparation for his admission next year to a school funded by my Department which will provide him with an appropriate education.
