Dick Spring

Question:

439 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that an extension for the Nano Nagle special school in Listowel, County Kerry, which was sanctioned in 1998, will not commence before 2004; and if, in view of the urgent requirement to provide facilities in County Kerry for children with autism, he will place the contract with local architects and builders in County Kerry. [18741/01]

My Department will shortly be nominating a design team to commence architectural planning for an extension to Nano Nagle special school in Listowel, County Kerry. When architectural planning has been completed, the project will be tendered for in the normal way.

In view of the large number of school building projects currently being processed by my Department, it is not possible at this point to give any indication as to the timetable for the provision of the facilities. The school authorities will be kept informed of developments.
