453 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education and Science if it remains the plan of his Department to announce a scheme to recruit direct employees to perform the functions of persons currently doing these functions on community employment schemes; the plans there are to offer these posts to current incumbents; when persons concerned can expect this matter to be finalised; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for the operation of community employment schemes in schools lies with FÁS. In line with a PPF commitment to mainstream certain essential services provided under community employment, officials from my Department are in discussions with their counterparts in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment regarding this issue. These discussions are at an advanced stage and a further announcement will be made regarding this matter in the near future.
