Vol. 539 No. 3

Written Answers. - Infectious Diseases.

Jim Higgins

Question:

132 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Health and Children if the Government is in breach of EU regulations by determining that asbestosis is not a prescribed disease. [19408/01]

Infectious diseases are notifiable to the National Disease Surveillance Centre, NDSC, under the provisions of the Infectious Diseases Regulations, 1981, and subsequent amendments. As asbestosis is not an infectious disease the question of making it statutorily notifiable does not arise. I am not aware of any EU regulations in relation to this matter.
