Vol. 539 No. 3

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Question:

143 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will reverse the decision to remove a drug (details supplied) from the list of drugs available under the general medical scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19480/01]

The product referred to by the Deputy was removed from the common list of reimbursable medicines at the request of the company that marketed it. Accordingly, the question of reinstating it on the list does not arise. However, I am informed that alternative products are available and any patients experiencing difficulty obtaining their medication should consult their general practitioner. Arrangements may also be made on an individual basis for the sourcing and supply of the product through the arrangements made for the supply of unlicensed medicines.
