Vol. 539 No. 3

Written Answers. - Health Hazards.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

36 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the concerns regarding health raised by a group (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19355/01]

I am advised that the group referred to by the Deputy wrote to my Department recently concerning the erection of overhead power lines in their area and expressing concerns over possible health hazards that might be linked to emissions from the lines. Reference was made to recent research and reviews concerning high voltage power lines and health.

The information submitted was referred to the medical division in the Department and a response will be issuing shortly to the group regarding the health concerns raised. Medical officers in the Department keep informed of developments in the this area and further research is on-going at international level.
