Vol. 539 No. 3

Written Answers. - General Practitioner Services.

Willie Penrose

Question:

58 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children if it is intended to introduce checks and inspections for general practitioners to guarantee better treatment for patients, as recommended in the review of general practitioner services; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19216/01]

I have no plans at present to introduce a system on the lines suggested by the Deputy. However, this matter and all other issues relating to the review of general practice will be fully discussed in the context of the major consultative process which will commence shortly with all the relevant parties including the Irish Medical Organisation and the Irish College of General Practitioners.
