Question:

281 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of people who have applied to his Department for the provision of grants for child care facilities under the capital grants scheme for community based non-profit groups and for capital grants for self-employed child care providers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20514/01]

Under the Equal Opportunities Childcare Programme 2000 to 2006, which was advertised in the national press in April 2000, the total number of applications received for capital grants from community based, not for profit child care groups is 246 and the total number from self-employed, private child care providers is 321. This information is set out in the following tabular statement and shows a total of 567 applications.
