Question:216 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will establish a resident embassy in Algiers in view of the need to promote relations between Ireland and Algeria. [21061/01]

There is a strong interest in developing and building on the good relations between Ireland and Algeria. While there are no immediate plans to open a resident embassy in Algiers, the matter is kept under review having regard to Ireland's national and international interests and bearing in mind the availability of the necessary resources.
