346 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the percentage of each EUROP grade, by animal type, in each factory region in the years 1999, 2000 and to date in 2001; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22243/01]

The national carcase classification results for all sex categories for 1999 and 2000 are given in the following annexe.

Classification data on an individual slaughter plant basis commenced only in 2000. Accordingly, this data is not available for 1999. Classification data for 2001 is not yet available because of the complication arising from the purchase of approximately 278,000 cattle into the EU purchase for destruction scheme. Of necessity, the classification results for these non-commercial purchases had to be maintained separately from normal commercial slaughterings. The process of consolidating both sets of classification results is now almost complete and it is hoped that the individual slaughter plant results for the first three quarters of 2001 will be available by the end of the month. I will arrange for the data to be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as it becomes available.
