Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers.

Liam Aylward

Question:

386 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance if he has received a report on the review of the disabled drivers and disabled passengers tax concessions regulations scheme; if his attention has been drawn to the urgent need to widen the scope of this scheme with particular reference to the medical criteria in order to qualify for the various concessions under this scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21750/01]

I have not yet received this report. I am aware that the substantial tax benefits of the disabled drivers and disabled passengers scheme make for considerable interest in and desire to be admitted to the scheme. For the Deputy's information, the cost of the scheme, which is not means tested, was approximately £22 million in 2000. I expect the cost to rise this year to the region of £25 million.
