Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Child Care Services.

Richard Bruton

Question:

524 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason child care workers providing a service to those with a mental disability have not been paid the increase in pay which applied to child care workers in residential units from April 2000; and if he will make arrangements to immediately restore the [420] equity of treatment of such workers in the health services. [21796/01]

make arrangements to immediately restore the equity of treatment of such workers in the health services. [21796/01]

The agreement referred to by the Deputy was concluded with IMPACT in March last in respect of houseparent grades working specifically in statutory child care services. I understand that

the Public Service Benchmarking Body is evaluating the work both of the new grades now created under the agreement in statutory child care services and houseparent grades employed in the intellectual disability sector and will be making recommendations as to the future pay position of these grades in due course.
