Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Cancer Screening Programme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

577 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps he will take to address the situation whereby European recommendations for cancer screening have yet to be officially validated; and if he proposes to make this a priority on the agenda at one of the next meetings of European Health Ministers. [22079/01]

The recommendations referred to by the Deputy were published as guidelines. Current cervical and breast screening programmes take account of and are being conducted in accordance with principles of best practice and international guidelines.

Ireland would be prepared to participate in any discussions on this matter which may be considered appropriate for consideration by European Health Ministers.
