Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Michael Ring

Question:

687 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the Castlebar environs sewerage scheme; and when payment of moneys will be sanctioned. [21328/01]

Castlebar environs sewerage scheme is included in my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002 as a scheme to commence construction in 2002. Mayo County Council's environmental impact assessment for the scheme has been submitted to An Bord Pleanála and that the council is awaiting the board's decision.

Michael Bell

Question:

688 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he proposes to grant and support the installation of a sewerage scheme for the Termonfeckin - Baltray area by Louth County Council; if an application has been made; the amount of money which has been sought; when he proposes to give sanction; when the work is likely to commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21337/01]

This scheme has been approved for funding, at an estimated cost of £3.1 million (3.93 million), under the rural towns and villages initiative. I approved contract documents for the scheme in July 2001, and it is now a matter for Louth County Council to advance the scheme to tender stage.

Some advance elements of the scheme, separate from those under environmental and planning assessment, are already proceeding and I approved contract documents for works at Moneen and for sewer rehabilitation in May and July 2001, respectively. The preparation of contract documents for works at Turlough Road-Castlehill was also approved in May. Proposals submitted by the council for further advance works at Ballinrobe Road-Saleen are being examined in my Department.
