Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Local Authority Loans.

Michael Ring

Question:

711 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when a proposal to amend high interest rates on local authority loans taken out some years ago will be implemented. [21848/01]

My Department undertook a survey of local authorities to determine the extent of remaining high fixed interest rates loans. It was established that information supplied in response to that survey did not, in some cases, include tenant purchase loans. Accordingly, it was necessary to request local authorities to review, and update if necessary, the information supplied. The responses of the local authorities to this review are currently being analysed by my Department following which consideration will be given of an appropriate course of action.
