779 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) will receive an amended carer's allowance. [21266/01]

The person concerned is currently in receipt of carers allowance at the weekly maximum rate of £88.50 for one care recipient. He applied for a further increase in his carer's allowance in respect of an additional care recipient on 18 May 2001.

He was awarded this increase with effect from 16 November 2000 and has been notified of this decision. Arrangements have been made to have his existing payable order book recalled. A new book at the increased maximum weekly rate of £132.80 will then issue to his nominated post office. All arrears due for the period from 16 November 2000 will issue shortly afterwards.

Question:

781 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo whose appeal was successful and who was granted a disability benefit has not received payment. [21268/01]

The person concerned was examined by a medical assessor of the Department and was found capable of work on 23 May 2001. Following this finding, it was decided that she was not entitled to payment of disability benefit from 31 May 2001. She appealed against the decision to disallow her disability benefit and was subsequently found incapable of work. A disability benefit arrears cheque issued to the person concerned on 6 September 2001. There was a delay in dealing with this case and this delay is regretted. The person concerned is currently in receipt of a weekly disability benefit payment and is paid to the date of the latest medical certificate submitted by her.
