Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

963 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when he expects to commission the proposed new Garda station in Leixlip, County Kildare; the number of gardaí likely to be deployed there; the extent of the facilities to be provided; when it is expected all such facilities will be on stream; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22505/01]

I have been informed by the Commissioners of Public Works that they have agreed terms for the requisition of a site for the creation of a new Garda station in Leixlip and discussions are ongoing in the matter. When that office has secured a site, a brief of requirements will be prepared for a new station. Accordingly, it is not possible at this time to give a timescale for the construction of the new station. With regard to the number of gardaí likely to be deployed there, I have been informed by the Garda authorities that a review of the strength of Leixlip will be carried out on completion of the proposed new station, having regard to available resources at that time.
