Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

1008 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the provision of a new school at Listellick, Tralee, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21155/01]

Following consideration of an application for additional accommodation, the school authorities were advised some time ago that, based on enrolment and demographic trends, housing developments and birth and baptismal statistics, the need for a 12 classroom school had been established. While the school authorities are in agreement with my Department's determination of future needs, it has been pointed out that the existing school site is inadequate to meet these needs. A decision on how best to provide for the school's additional requirements will be taken as soon as possible. The school authorities will be kept informed of developments in this regard.
