Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

1019 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that children attending Kilmore Central School, Kilmore, County Wexford, are educated in buildings which have structural problems leading to health problems (details supplied); his views on whether such conditions are conducive to the proper education of these children and to the health and safety of pupils and staff of the school; the reason no progress has been made towards remedying these deficiencies despite an inspection by his Department in May 2000; his Department's plans for dealing with this matter, including a specific time frame; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21230/01]

My Department has written to the school authorities authorising the appointment of a consultant architect in order to prepare a report on remedial works required at the school. It is not possible at this stage to say when work will commence.
