Question:
As the Deputy will be aware the Government significantly increased the number of teaching posts in the years 1997-98 to 2000-01 by more than 3,000. We also greatly increased the number of teachers in training during the same period. These improvements created a demand for extra teachers which would not be fully met in the short-term. The numbers of temporary whole-time and eligible part-time teachers employed in secondary and community-comprehensive schools in the years in question were as follows:
