Question:

1113 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the proposals he has to provide a classroom assistant for a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21945/01]

My Department has received an application from the principal of the school in question for the allocation of a special needs assistant to cater for the needs of the pupil concerned. The matter has been referred to the psychological service for a report. As soon as the report has been received and considered, my Department will advise the school authorities and the Deputy of the decision.
