Question:

1124 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will approve an application by a person (details supplied) in County Kerry for the provision of a classroom assistant. [22135/01]

I am aware of the pupil referred to by the Deputy. I understand that the pupil in question has been in receipt of resource teaching support since October 1999. An application for a special needs assistant for this pupil has recently been received in my Department. My Department's inspectorate is currently investigating the application. Once the inspectorate has reported, my officials will be in contact with the school authorities.

1125 Mr. Higgins (Mayo) asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will approve incremental credits for a special needs assistant teacher (details supplied) at a special school in County Mayo. [22182/01]

My Department's officials are examining an application for incremental credit received from the special needs assistant in question. Officials from my Department will be in contact with the person in question in due course with regard to this matter.
