Vol. 541 No. 2

Written Answers. - Motor Insurance.

Richard Bruton

Question:

186 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she will set out the conflicting evidence on the extent of the practice of overcharging young drivers by insurance companies; if she has received a preliminary report on the further independent assessment of this issue; and the steps she will take to ensure that young drivers with a safe driving record are not excessively penalised. [21826/01]

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

191 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if she has received the final report of the Motor Insurance Advisory Board on car insurance; and the measures she proposes to take to reduce the cost of car insurance. [21911/01]

During the recent summer period, motor insurers provided further data to the Motor Insurance Advisory Board. That data is currently being analysed and verified. When that process is complete, the board will consider the analysis and, on that basis, prepare its final report to me, which is expected to be available by the end of this year. The Government will consider the report and the board's recommendations, subsequent to the receipt of the report.
