Vol. 541 No. 3

Written Answers. - EU Programmes.

Question:

42 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the position regarding discussions with the European Commission on the proposed URBAN II programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22329/01]

I understand that negotiations between the managing authority – Dublin Corporation – and the European Commission on the draft URBAN II Programme are continuing with a view to having the programme approved this month. However, the starting date for eligibility of expenditure under the programme is 23 March this year, the date on which the programme was officially received by the Commission. The total budget for the programme is 11.4 million, of which the EU contribution is 5.3 million.

The Deputy may wish to note that the Depart ment of Environment and Local Government will take over responsibility for managing delivery of the programme as soon as it has been approved by the European Commission.
