Vol. 541 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Michael Ring

Question:

124 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position regarding the Geesala sewerage scheme, in County Mayo. [21599/01]

A brief for the Geesala sewerage scheme was submitted to my Department in 1995 but has not been approved. The scheme was 27th on the list of schemes submitted by Mayo County Council in response to my Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme 2000-02, announced in July 2000. Given the priority afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of competing demands, and the funding available, it has not been possible to include it in the programme.

Question:

125 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the estimated timeframe for the completion of a sewerage scheme (details supplied) in County Mayo. [21600/01]

Kiltimagh sewerage scheme is included in my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2000-2002 as a scheme to advance through planning. I approved a brief for the appointment of consultants to prepare a preliminary report for the scheme in October 2000. Further advancement of the scheme awaits the submission of the preliminary report to my Department by Mayo County Council.
