Vol. 541 No. 4

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Ring

Question:

242 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reason a person (details supplied) in County Mayo has not received an area based payment. [22909/01]

A condition of the area based compensatory allowance scheme is that applicants must meet a minimum stocking level of 0.15 livestock units per forage hectare in the year preceding application. However, farmers who are unable to meet that minimum stocking density but who traditionally qualified for headage grants in respect of cattle and/or sheep may continue to qualify for payment, provided their land is being utilized and is not in danger of under-grazing.

As the stocking density of the holding of the person named was 0.11 livestock units per forage hectare in 2000, his application under the 2001 area based compensatory allowance scheme is being examined to ensure that his holding is being utilized and is not undergrazed. If his holding meets these requirements payment will issue as soon as possible.
