Vol. 541 No. 4

Written Answers. - Under-age Drinking.

Cecilia Keaveney

Question:

300 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Health and Children the communications he has had with the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform regarding the problem of under-age drinking throughout rural and urban areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22894/01]

I made a submission to the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform in the context of the proposed changes in the Liquor Licensing Code. This submission included my concerns about under age drinking. My Department is also represented on the Liquor Licensing Commission established by Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform and on the high-level interdepartmental working group which was subsequently established to co-ordinate a response to the recommendations contained in the interim report of the Liquor Licensing Commission. My concerns regarding under age drinking continue to be raised in these fora.
