Question:

320 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children the categories of staff that are included by profession in the additional 9,500 staff provided for under the 2001 Department of Health estimates; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23103/01]

The number of posts approved by my Department for development funding for 2001 is 6,953 whole-time equivalents. The breakdown of these posts by grade category and agreed through the service planning process, as provided to me by the health boards are as set out in the following table. Details in respect of the Eastern Regional Health Authority are being compiled at present and will be forwarded directly to the Deputy.

It should be noted that the grade category of management/administrative also includes staff who are of direct service to patients, such as consultants' secretaries, community welfare officers, out-patient department personnel, ward clerks, medical records personnel and telephonists who are engaged in front line duties.
