Vol. 541 No. 4

Written Answers. - Funding Application.

John McGuinness

Question:

379 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will expedite an application by an organisation (details supplied) for funding; and if the amount being sought can be confirmed as soon as possible. [22730/01]

As the Deputy is aware, capital and staffing grant schemes for community based and not for profit groups are part of the Government child care funding initiatives administered under my Department's equal opportunities child care programme 2000 to 2006. I have been informed by my Department's equal opportunities child care section that an application for a capital grant was received from the organisation concerned on 12 June 2001. I understand from my officials that this grant application was forwarded to Area Development Management Ltd. on 14 June 2001. A technical assessment of this application will be carried out by ADM Ltd. prior to referral to the programme appraisal committee. This assessment may involve site visits or meetings.

Once the assessment and appraisal process is complete, I will make a decision shortly thereafter. In the interim, it would be premature of me to comment further on the application. I would also point out that in February of this year I approved a staffing grant of £149,400 (189,698.87), over three years, to the organisation concerned.
