Vol. 541 No. 4

Written Answers. - Exploring Masculinities Programme.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

160 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of schools providing the exploring masculinity programme; his proposals to evaluate this programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22999/01]

The Exploring Masculinities resource materials are available to second level schools on an optional basis. The materials may be used independently or integrated into social, personal and health education, SPHE, or used in transition year. The extent to which the materials are used is a matter for each individual school. Information on the number of schools using this resource material is not held on my Department's database.

I have commissioned a full review of the materials by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, NCCA. The review is currently under way and will focus on the content and the learning process supported by the materials. The review will take account of the views of teachers, parents and young persons participating in the programme.
