Vol. 541 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Code.

Tony Gregory

Question:

240 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will review the application of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 for a back to education allowance. [23434/01]

To qualify for participation on the back to education allowance scheme an unemployed person must, inter alia, be in receipt of a relevant social welfare payment for at least six months – 156 days – immediately prior to commencing an approved course of study.

The person concerned was in receipt of unemployment assistance for 141 days prior to participation in her third level course and as she did not satisfy this requirement, she was not, therefore, eligible for the allowance under the existing rules of the scheme.
