145 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has received a request for financial assistance to allow the Irish Schools' Debating Council to participate in the World School Debating Championship in Singapore in January 2002; if so, if he will respond favourably to the request; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Education and Science (Dr. Woods): My Department has received a request for funding by the Irish Schools' Debating Council on its proposed participation in the World Debating Championships in Singapore next year. As on a number of occasions in previous years, my Department will make a contribution towards the costs of participation in this worthwhile endeavour. This has been indicated to the council.
