Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Rail Network.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

211 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if her attention has been drawn to the fact that Iarnród Éireann has decided not to proceed with the completion of the track upgrading between Boyle and Sligo in 2002 despite commitments given by her that the work would be completed in 2002; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24364/01]

The track upgrading on the Sligo line has been substantially completed. Between Connolly Station and Sligo, 144 miles of the track has already been relaid and only a further nine miles remains to be undertaken. Under the railway safety programme 1999 to 2003, the target date for the completion of the track renewal programme on the Sligo line is the end of 2002. I am asking Iarnród Éireann to ensure that this target is achieved.
