Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Rural Depopulation.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

236 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reasons the district electoral divisions of Ballylongford and Brosna, County Kerry, were excluded from the CLÁR programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23847/01]

The areas selected for inclusion in the CLÁR programme are based primarily on the greatest percentage loss of population between 1926 and 1996. The average population loss in the 16 areas selected is 50%. The percentage population decreases in Ballylongford and Brosna were 21% and 34% respectively.
