Written Answers. - Vaccination Programme.

Bernard Allen

Question:

352 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of children for whom the polio vaccine must be re-administered in the Southern Health Board area; the number who have been contacted to date by the health board; the number of children who have been vaccinated; the number of children who have yet to be contacted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24307/01]

The latest information provided to my Department by the Southern Health Board, on 8 October, indicates that 209 children were administered oral polio vaccine more than one month after the expiry date.

The board has further indicated that general practitioners in the area have been informed of the children in their practices who received oral polio vaccine more than one month after the expiry date and were asked to offer re-vaccination. The Southern Health Board is currently contacting each GP to ascertain the current situation with regard to the number of children re-vaccinated.

Question No. 353 answered with Question No. 321.
