Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Pádraic McCormack

Question:

394 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will alter the regulation to allow house and farm group water schemes grants to be available to group water scheme extensions in rural areas of county borough councils as in county council areas. [24277/01]

Financial assistance for group water schemes is provided to county councils under the rural water programme and I have no proposals to extend the programme to urban areas. However, in any case where an existing group water scheme continues to supply group members located within an urban boundary, and where there is no alternative public water supply available, the county council may, with the consent of the borough, pay group water scheme grants for the upgrading or extension of the group scheme.
