Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Inland Waterways.

Rory O'Hanlon

Question:

434 Dr. O'Hanlon asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the position regarding the refurbishment of the Ulster Canal; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24369/01]

A consultant's report, A Feasibility Study into the Reopening of the Ulster Canal, together with a reaction thereto from Waterways Ireland, was presented to the waterways sectoral North-South ministerial council meeting attended by me and Michael McGimpsey, MLA, Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure in the North, in Enniskillen on 27 June 2001. It was agreed that Minister Michael McGimpsey and I would have the report assessed in our respective Departments with a view to considering the matter further at the next waterways sectoral meeting in the autumn. This meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday, 23 November 2001.
