Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Prisoner Releases.

Michael Creed

Question:

438 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if his Department owes moneys to a person (details supplied) in County Cork; and if so, if he will make arrangements for payment. [23682/01]

The person to whom he refers is on temporary release from Mountjoy Prison and is in receipt of a daily gratuity of £1, or 1.27, from that institution. The temporary release is granted for a period of two months which is renewed subject to continued good behaviour. The probation and welfare service supervises this person in the community and the supervising officer receives the gratuity payment once every two months from the prison and passes it on to the person concerned when the temporary release renewal form is being signed. I am informed by the prison authorities that there are no outstanding moneys due to the person concerned.
