Written Answers. - Institutes of Technology.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

501 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason the new building to house west Dublin education centre continues to lie idle in the grounds of IT, Tallaght; if his attention has been drawn to the ongoing costs associated with the education centre being unable to complete its move to Tallaght; the steps he will take to resolve whatever dispute is delaying the opening of the new building; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23704/01]

Brian Hayes

Question:

572 Mr. B. Hayes asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress in respect of the provision of a teachers centre in the grounds of Tallaght IT; if this facility is lying idle due to resourcing difficulties from his Department; when he expects the facility will be available for local teachers in the Dublin west area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24263/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 501 and 572 together.

My Department has practically completed the construction of the new Dublin West Education Centre in the grounds of Tallaght IT. It is hoped to occupy the building in the near future upon finalisation of the draft lease agreement in respect of the land currently held by Tallaght IT. Continuous efforts are in place between the Chief State Solicitor's Office and the solicitors acting on behalf of Tallaght IT to resolve these difficulties as a matter of urgency with a view to accommodating West Dublin Education Centre.
