Vol. 542 No. 2

Written Answers. - Foreign Conflicts.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

108 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has raised with the Rwandan authorities the issue of Congolese prisoners (details supplied) held in Rwanda; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23739/01]

I am aware of reports of the detention of a number of Congolese in Rwanda, and my Department is currently investigating the matter. The Irish Mis sion to the UN in Geneva is in contact with UN agencies and NGOs which operate on the ground in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda. We have also been in contact with the Belgian Presidency of the EU on the matter.

I will of course take appropriate action when I receive the facts of the case, and I will also keep the Deputy informed of developments.

Question No. 109 answered with Question No. 105.
