Question:

564 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of schools, both secondary and primary, in Cork city which are seeking extensions and improvements; the names of the schools; the date the applications were made; the current state of each application; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24197/01]

The information in the format requested by the Deputy is not readily available in my Department. However, if the Deputy wishes to obtain details of specific building projects, I will be happy to provide them.

Paul Connaughton

Question:

565 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Education and Science the stage at which the proposals to provide an extension and refurbishment to Cappatagle national school, Ballinasloe, County Galway has reached; if his attention has been drawn to the chronic overcrowding at the school at present; his views on whether there is an accommodation crisis in the school; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24198/01]

My Department has received an application for grant aid towards the cost of a building project at Cappatagle national school, County Galway. The Deputy will appreciate that there has been a massive and unprecedented increase in the funds allocated by this Government to the schools building programme at all levels. Decisions relating to the rate of progress to construction of projects, including the school referred to by the Deputy, will be taken in the light of the allocations to be made for school building purposes in the forthcoming Estimates.
