Question:

75 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has in the past four and a half years appointed to any State or semi-State board or agency, any executive or employee of consultancy firms or public relations firms which have previously benefited from contracts issued by his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24587/01]

Ms Mairead Foley was appointed chairperson of the national committee for development education – NCDE – on 31 January 1998. At that time Ms Foley was employed by Carr Communications, a public relations firm. Carr Communications has undertaken contracts issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs. Ms Foley no longer works for Carr Communications.

Professor Helen O'Neill, a current member of the Irish Aid Advisory Committee – IAAC, was initially appointed in 1998. She has conducted a consultancy assignment for the Department of Foreign Affairs in her capacity as director of the centre for development studies, UCD.
